Detour Derailed

Halsa to Bodø, then to Oslo

The alarm clock went off at 7 sharp, and H-T more than a little excited to get on the bike and get on towards Sandnessjøen. Unfortunately, a tap on the shoulder by Erik, followed by a sad announcement that he had a fever, quickly turned all thoughts away from ferry schedules and food stops. With the current wave of omikron-who-knows-which-variant there wasn’t really any question as to what would follow next. On a sort of bright side of things, Halsa, a fairly inconspicuous village, turned out to be convenient for public transport back to Bodø. The host at the cabin generously allowed us to stay abit after checkout while waiting for the bus headed north. What followed was an uneventful 3 hour bus ride to Bodø, a night at a hotel, before packing up our bikes into boxes at the local bikeshop, and then straight to the airport. Erik was supremely relieved to be back home, where he could finally get some rest and respite.

So after two years of dodging the virus, social distancing, vaccinations and hand sanitizing left and right, in the span of 6 weeks, we both caught it. H-T caught omikron just before leaving for the Detour, and then having the Detour Derailled, with Erik catching it midway. Perhaps the weather will improve for our next attempt to get to Lindesnes!
