Bodø to Halsa
We stayed two nights in Bodø, enjoying the hospitality of the Moe family. Good thing to spend a rest day at a fellow cyclist’s house, as H-T’s bike had clearly gone on bad weather-strike: the gears started acting up and would not reliably shift down in wet conditions (which so far seems like all the time). We replaced the gear wire, greased all nooks and crannies and also replaced worn out break pads (which were almost new when we started!).
Bright and early, and more than a little excited, we headed out towards Saltstraumen and then the coastal route southbound. The weather promised rain, but with now plenty of experience with the wet, we had already phoned ahead and booked a cabin at Halsa. Assured that we would be able to dry our gear overnight, the Goretex pants were left in the bag. A consistent 11 degrees and pitter-patter rain was just about bearable…
But the route was scenic and mostly flat, the head wind was not too strong, barely any traffic, and the mood was good. Tomorrow is looking better and we will also reach Sandnessjøen, where we will stay with family of H-T and also retrieve our resupply package from the post office.
