Detour Day 7

Straumfjorden to Tromsø

Last night we learned that public campgrounds, while flat and nice to pitch a tent on, are perhaps not the most peaceful and quiet places to stay. Note to self to stick with wildcamping…

So when the alarm went off at 04:45, the mood was muted, but determined. The goal today is to reach Tromsø, where we will have a full rest day. In between us and a hotel bed however, was two ferries and an evening rainstorm. Hence the slightly alpine start! Another great boon of starting this early is the reduced traffic on e6.

By a fair margin we arrived at the first ferry. The manager at Coop thankfully noticed us waiting outside and let us in to buy lunch half an hour before regular opening hours!

Bellies full, soon our hearts were equally filled as the ferry we cycled across the peninsula of Lyngen, with the green valleys, steep alpine mountains and white glaciers. 22 km flew by in a wink, before we arrived at the second ferry, taking us over the fjord and closer to Tromsø and the rain.

We managed to stay clear for 110 kilometers before we were caught in the rain. No worries, since a warm and comfy hotel room was waiting for us in Tromsø.
