Detour day 2

Vestertana to Kjøllefjord

Today’s weather forecast was not great: strong headwinds with lots of rain. We set the alarm to 6 in the morning to try to get a few hours of riding before the rain was scheduled to arrive.

Sore legs and sore butts, but it was good to be up and riding in the beautiful landscape. While yesterday was mostly flat along the coast, today offers mostly climbing. Up 8% hills, then a plunge down into the fjords again.

There was only one food stop along the route today, a small gem of a shop in Lebesby. Stocked up on gluten, chocolate, waffles and coffee, all a cyclist need in a long day!

And then the rain began. On with the gore-tex and shoe covers, and try to stay dry. Three notable climbs today, up onto arid, but beautiful, plateaus. With the headwinds slowing us down, there was plenty of opportunity to enjoy the scenery, although taking pictures and filming along the way was too big an effort.

9 hours later we finally rolled into Kjøllefjord. Here we will spend half the night, until catching the ferry to Honningsvåg for stage 2.
